Biomethane Training for Producers and Distributors

With more than 700 sites in operation and continued growth, a challenge arises: ensuring professional and safe operation of methanization units.

The biomethane sector is gaining momentum in France, driven by ambitious goals for the energy transition.
With more than 700 sites in operation and continued growth, a challenge arises: ensuring professional and safe operation of methanization units.
Beyond environmental and economic challenges, training operators is essential to the long-term sustainability of the sector.

Key Figures: Biomethane in France, June 2025

  • 771 biomethane injection sites
  • 645 connected to the GRDF network
  • 14.82 TWh of installed annual capacity
  • Equivalent to heating 3,706,500 new homes
  • Or fueling 59,280 buses running on BioNGV

Training Biomethane Producers

“For the agricultural sector, which is facing the challenges of climate change head-on, biomethane represents a real asset in dealing with the impact on crop production while ensuring stable income despite uncertainties.”
— François Cabon, trainer/designer at Energy Formation

Producing biomethane is not just about converting agricultural or industrial waste. It also involves managing a complex technical process requiring skills in biology, engineering, regulations, and safety.

Poor management can lead to:

  • Yield losses
  • Technical incidents
  • Accidents
  • Disputes with stakeholders

Professionalizing operators is therefore essential to:

  • Avoid costly mistakes
  • Ensure reliable and safe production
  • Guarantee the safety of people working on or near the methanization unit

Our Training Programs for Biomethane Producers

“Developing a methanization project means undertaking a large-scale industrial project that requires multiple skills and great rigor. Getting support from the very beginning of your project is a guarantee of success and peace of mind.”
— François Cabon, trainer/designer at Energy Formation

To specifically address the challenges faced by biomethane producers, we have designed the Métha’Form program: 13 training courses organized around:

  • Installation maintenance
  • Industrial risk management
  • Compliance with current regulations

Operators, technicians, and project developers can follow the complete training program or choose à la carte courses tailored to their specific needs.

The Métha’Form Program

Did you know?

Before working on a biomethane production facility:

  • You must attend a safety briefing, based on the prevention plan established for the site.
  • You must carry a work order specifying the risks related to the intervention and the required certifications.
  • You must comply with the ATEX zoning in place and be equipped with appropriate work clothing and a 4-gas detector.

Training Gas Distributors

“Biomethane injection stations are highly technical units involving chemistry, electricity, instrumentation, and industrial IT. Working on injection stations is not something you can improvise!”
— François Cabon, trainer/designer at Energy Formation

Enhancing the skills of gas distributors is essential to support the development of the biomethane sector.

Gas distributors must:

  • Ensure the connection of biomethane producers to their networks so that the green gas produced can be injected and used.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on injection stations.
  • Develop customer relationships with biomethane producers.

As interactions between distributors and producers increase and intensify, it becomes necessary to develop an understanding of customer needs and establish a high-quality, trust-based relationship.

Our Biomethane Training for Gas Distributors

“The multiplication of biomethane production sites is both excellent news for decarbonizing France’s energy mix and a challenge for gas network operators, who must adapt their grids to this paradigm shift: managing flows, adapting the network, adjusting distribution zones…”
— François Cabon, trainer/designer at Energy Formation

To meet these challenges, we offer 14 training courses covering:

  • Engineering for connecting a methanization unit to the gas network.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of injection stations.
  • Developing long-term customer relationships.
